Destiny

About a week back, I happened to notice a Man of Steel piece that Oli Riches posted to Twitter. This was not a recent piece (as if to say, created in the last few days). Rather, this was an illustration that had been created some time ago but one that I had failed to notice. Oli’s piece reminded me very much of the Ken Taylor “Man of Steel” print that leaves everyone’s mouth agape and fetches insane prices on the secondary market.

Oli’s piece shares that quiet sensibility but it’s also bold in it’s use of color and form. If you look at the clouds, one can see the man young Clark Kent will become. The clouds become metaphor. Oli showcases the destiny of this young boy, on his way to becoming The Man of Steel, and he does it well.

Gabz Got Me Jumpin’ Off The Deck…

and shovin’ into overdrive with his latest print for Odd City Entertainment. Yes, Goose, Top Gun is well-represented in this print. All fighter jets and hashtag Tom Cruise before Oprah-couch-jumping. This print takes you right into the Danger Zone with Maverick, Goose, Iceman and that bald commander whose name I can’t remember but who was a total jerk because he wouldn’t let Maverick be Maverick! Now, where the Hell are my mirrored sunglasses and leather jacket…

Top Gun – Magic Hour Press

“When you’re an 80’s kid like myself you just had to see and fall in love with Top Gun. Sure it has that testosterone/macho vibe that used to be so popular back in those days. Call me nostalgic, but I consider it a classic action flick, with brilliant aerial sequences, cool characters and an awesome soundtrack. When approached by Odd City for this print I knew I wanted something horizontal this time around. I decided a jet fighter battle recollecting the Cold War era should really work well with this title. I also wanted to step back from the complex multi-character based compositions with this one, and to design the print in a way so it could be viewed upside down as well.”GABZ

Grey Matter’s Mike Gregory has some things to say about Cyberdyne Systems Model 101. “So we have a new poster, and it is for our biggest license to date, we are proud to announce our next poster for “The Terminator” and “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” by artist Grzegorz Domaradzki (Gabz). This will be a 2 part series, with the first poster to be released December 16th, and the next to be released the following month. This poster will be a diptych and go together as one big epic piece. Please enjoy the first glimpse at Gabz’s amazing work. Hope you guys like it.

Doing this project meant a lot to both Jared and I the moment we were able to acquire the rights to do a poster for both Terminator films. We have always been such big fans of this Franchise, and to have the opportunity to do a poster for both movies, was an honor. This is our 3rd poster collaboration to release with artist Gabz, and we really work so well together. He seems to know exactly what us and other poster collectors are looking for, and delivers every time. I think Gabz depicted this movie very well, and finally gave us the epic Terminator poster we have been waiting for. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we had making it.”

While going door-to-door, looking for Sarah Connor and blowing punk-ass bitches away, we managed to get this quote from Gabz himself: “The Terminator” and “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” are both one of those movies I always wanted to work on, so when Mike Gregory from Grey Matter Art approached me with the offer, it was like a dream come true. I wanted something with strong imagery, action packed, and with a glimpse of the future as seen in both movies. While I’m hoping the artworks will speak for themselves, two things worth pointing out is that the general concept was inspired by an interview with James Cameron I read a while back, in which he stated that he had a dream about a cyborg/robot coming out of the flames, and as we all know the rest is pretty much a cinema history. The other thing I wanted, was to design both posters to form a diptych.”
