Here is what Chris had to say about “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”
“To me, “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” is a film that perfectly plays on the notion that any fairly normal person at any point has the potential to become a monster under the right circumstances. The eyes are a dead giveaway when first spotting that transition, so I really wanted to focus on depicting the actual transformation inside the eye itself, which was weird, different, and a whole lot of fun. It’s always a challenge to put a unique look on a classic, so I hope you all enjoy it.“

Here is what Tim had to say about “Reefer Madness”
“Reefer Madness” needs no introduction. The American propaganda film that follows the exploits of teens in the 30’s being peer pressured into trying “The Devils Weed” aka Marijuana and what follows is lunacy, depravity and insanity all caused by marijuana addiction. Ridiculous and often hilarious, this film needed some more poster love. I decided to veer away from the propaganda type feel as well as the cartoon like approach. The film itself was INTENDED to be serious and to scare viewers into believing these awful events were caused by pot. So I decided to go that route, giving it a film noir feel with an art nouveau flare. A young woman, pressured into trying some marijuana and being tempted by the devil with a yellow rose. The inclusion of the flowers within the piece adds a bit of depth and symbolism as well. The yellow rose symbolizes friendship and joy, while the white flower in her hair, represents her innocence and purity. By “taking” the devil’s flower she is accepting him into her making her his to control. I truly hope you all enjoy this print and thank you to Jared and Mike at Grey Matter for embracing the idea and running with it.“

Here’s what Grey Matter Art had to say about their latest collaboration…
“This is our first collaboration with Chris, and we really had a blast working together. We are so incredibly pleased to release “Reefer Madness” as an exclusive poster at the Monster-Mania convention, running from March 13th-15th, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Chris & Grey Matter Art will both be in attendance, so please come on down, and show your support. The run size will be limited to only 40 posters, and any remaining copies will go on sale Tuesday, March 17th at 1PM EST in our shop page.”
Chris Garofalo himself had this to say about his latest work of art…
“When I was approached with this subject, I immediately knew that I wanted it to have a vintage, “poisonous, yet strangely appealing” feel to it. The original poster has such a loud “scare you straight” vibe, that I decided on the “seductive danger” route. It was certainly a lot of fun merging the two worlds of temptation and restriction on one print, and it was as challenging as it was rewarding.”

Recently, I Got Birds conducted their very first webcast with Chris Garofalo, aka Quiltface Studios. Being that this was our first time conducting a livestreaming Webcast, things did not go quite according to plan. Amazingly, I seemed to be the only participant buffering all over the place…stuttering and having video quality go wonky…Needless to say we hope future webcast quality will be improved and we’re working toward that goal.
On the plus side, and a HUGE plus it is, we got the opportunity to FINALLY speak with one of our favorite Illustrators, Chris Garofalo. Chris has been a big supporter of I Got Birds from the start, and we were thrilled that he took time away from his schedule to speak with us. We also had a co-host in the form of Tim McKenna from local design firm Azrael Group to help us out with questions, and the GOOD thing is that Tim didn’t seem to have any issues with buffering so his questions are smooth as silk. Yeah, that’s right, I said silk.
Anywho, we hope you guys get a chance to check out the webcast, and we’re hoping to do a lot more of these in the near future. Let us know in the comments section if you would like to see more, and in your spare moments, please check out our conversation with one of the nicest guys in the scene, Chris Garofalo.
