Here is what Chris had to say about “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”

To me, “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” is a film that perfectly plays on the notion that any fairly normal person at any point has the potential to become a monster under the right circumstances. The eyes are a dead giveaway when first spotting that transition, so I really wanted to focus on depicting the actual transformation inside the eye itself, which was weird, different, and a whole lot of fun. It’s always a challenge to put a unique look on a classic, so I hope you all enjoy it.

  • Size: 18×24

Here is what Tim had to say about “Reefer Madness”

Reefer Madness” needs no introduction. The American propaganda film that follows the exploits of teens in the 30’s being peer pressured into trying “The Devils Weed” aka Marijuana and what follows is lunacy, depravity and insanity all caused by marijuana addiction. Ridiculous and often hilarious, this film needed some more poster love. I decided to veer away from the propaganda type feel as well as the cartoon like approach. The film itself was INTENDED to be serious and to scare viewers into believing these awful events were caused by pot. So I decided to go that route, giving it a film noir feel with an art nouveau flare. A young woman, pressured into trying some marijuana and being tempted by the devil with a yellow rose. The inclusion of the flowers within the piece adds a bit of depth and symbolism as well. The yellow rose symbolizes friendship and joy, while the white flower in her hair, represents her innocence and purity. By “taking” the devil’s flower she is accepting him into her making her his to control. I truly hope you all enjoy this print and thank you to Jared and Mike at Grey Matter for embracing the idea and running with it.

THAT IS ONE TASTY BURGER, TRACIE CHING!

Illustrator, Designer and friend of I Got Birds, Tracie Ching, has produced three tribute prints for the films of Quentin Tarantino, to be shown at the upcoming “Young Guns” show at Hero Complex Gallery. Now, I don’t know about you but it appears to me that this has the potential of being some of the best work of Tracie’s career. I mean, it looks like Samuel L. Jackson wants to leap right out of that print and yell “MMMM-MMMM BITCH!!!” to me. These are really stunning prints and Tracie has returned to her blood-spatter embellishing for some prints in the series, making them true originals much like one of my favorite prints of Tracie’s, “The Yellow-Haired Warrior”.

Here’s a little of what Tracie had to say about the series…

“I was asked to participate in Hero Complex Gallery’s Young Guns Invitational, a show featuring emerging artists. Each artist was asked to submit a small body of work featuring a subject of their choosing. I decided to create portrait studies evocative of old tintype photographs for three of Quentin Tarantino’s most memorable characters – Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction, Aldo Raine from Inglourious Basterds, and Django from Django Unchained. They have been printed on French Paper’s gorgeous Steel Grey 100C and each study has a small variant run, each featuring totally unique blood splatter embellishments.”

Welcome to My Nightmare.

Illustrator Matt Tobin kills it with his tribute to “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”. This meta horror classic ranks as one of my favorite films of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise, and brings back Heather Langenkamp for yet another go-round as protagonist Nancy Thompson.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare by Matt Tobin

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare by Matt Tobin

I’m blown away by the detail in this piece, and am more than a little sad that it’s not available for the mass market consumer. This is a private commission that Matt created for a collector. Here, in Matt’s own words, is a little more about the piece…

“I was lucky enough to be commissioned privately yet again to create a poster for one of my favourite movies in my favourite horror franchise, Wes Craven’s “New Nightmare”.

I really wanted to capture the Fairy Tale undertones the film emits. It pays homage to Hansel & Gretel and is based around Freddy being more of an evil entity that has existed for centuries. This pure evilness, rather than the wise-cracking dream stalker we’ve grown to love. I dont think a lot of people were ready for this film upon its release – but looking back its definitely one of the strongest films in the Elm St. franchise.

I really wanted to approach this poster with more of a simplistic, dark, and somewhat whimsical feel. I wanted Freddy to be a looming presence encapsulating our two protagonists. It was nice to be able to put Heather Langenkamp in this piece. She’s one of the all time scream queen / survivors and I feel shes extremely important to the Freddy mythos and the horror genre in general. This was so much fun to create!”

Motel Hell

Skuzzles and artist Francesco Francavilla present a tribute to the classic 80’s slasher-comedy flick, Motel Hell. Francesco does a bang-up job of representing Farmer Vincent with his pig mask and cleaver intact. While the variant is sold out, there are still copies of the regular edition for sale over at Skuzzles!
