Aliens by Timothy Pittides

Grey Matter Art is excited to announce it’s next release! In partnership with Acme Archives and Dark Ink, under license from 20th Century Fox, GMA will be revealing a new screen print for the film, “Aliens” by the very talented artist, Timothy Pittides. Grey matter have always been huge fans of the Alien franchise, director, James Cameron and H.R. Giger, and they couldn’t be more thrilled with how this print came out. Also, Grey Matter wanted to include a picture of Tim’s original charcoal work, so everyone can see his process from rough to the final image. Below are details regarding the poster and release information.

Here is what Timothy had to say regarding his participation in the “Aliens” print…

ALIENS. One of the first three movies I remember seeing in the theaters (alongside Dick Tracy and Nightmare on Elm Street 3). It is a fond memory of mine as my father took to see it when I was 9. Ever since, it has been a staple, on VHS, DVD and now Blu-Ray. I watch it at least twice a month and it definitely a desert island film.

The film isn’t about the marines to me. It isn’t even about Ripley or Newt, their relationship or about facing your fears. It is about the suspense, the surprise, and scope of the xenomorph infestation. The scene that stuck with me all these years and still is a joy to watch is when the marines first encounter the Xenos. They were ill-prepared, overwhelmed and undermanned. And has a viewer you felt the same fear they did.

I wanted to somehow express this in art form and at the same time, pay tribute to the man who’s imagination sprung forth this nightmarish world… H.R. GIGER. While he may have not worked on this film specifically, his world was represented perfectly here and I hope he would have seen that. So this idea of seeing the hive for the first time, not knowing what was alive and what wasn’t, really spoke to me. I knew the only way to convey my ideas on paper would be in charcoals and knowing what could be done with screenprinting these days, I began to pour the idea down. When finished, it became clear that this was right. This was ALIENS.

I want to thank Grey Matter Art for releasing this as well as Matt Ferguson for getting this ready for screen printing. Everything came together so wonderfully and I cannot express my happiness in this. Being able to create an official piece for a film that you hold so dear to your heart is a great feeling.

“Aliens” will be released on Friday, May 19th at 1:00 PM EST at

Grey Matter Art has this to say about Cocaine Fiends…
Grey Matter Art is proud to announce a new exclusive poster release for the propaganda film “Cocaine Fiends” by Timothy Pittides. This is part of “VICES”; a three poster series based on the propaganda films from the 1930’s and 1940’s. The first poster in the series,”Reefer Madness” was released on August 1st, and this stunning entry begins the journey into our society’s need to control and be controlled. We are so incredibly pleased to release this as exclusive poster at New York Comic-Con at our booth #2366, running from October 8th-11th. Any remaining copies will go on sale Monday, October 12th at 1PM EST in our shop page.

Here is what Timothy Pittides had to say about the project:

With the second poster in the VICES series, I wanted a central piece to fit in between Reefer Madness and the third and final poster and Cocaine Fiends seemed like a obvious choice. The film, while a bit more truthful in it’s portrayal of the drug, is still over the top and comical. It tried to capitalize on paranoia that Reefer Madness created in the public but never reached the level it’s predecessor reached. With the poster I wanted to use the women’s eyes as a drawing in point, big and wide while still maintaining her beauty and innocence ( using the white rose). The Dope Demon (That’s what I am calling him now) emerging from the vial, engulfing her, keeping her both comfortable while at the same time controlling her. He leaves a trail of orange roses which symbolize energy and passion, something this vice surely invokes. I also wanted a synergy to the series and while in Reefer Madness, the demon is offering her a rose which is she is staring at (Seeing Evil), Cocaine Fiends offers the Demon whispering to her, tempting her (Hearing Evil). This series has been a blast to do and wanna thank Grey Matter for the support and get ready for the third and final poster coming in November!

Be sure to check out Grey Matter Art’s booth at NYCC, and while there, pick up a copy of Cocaine Fiends!

Here is what Chris had to say about “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”

To me, “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” is a film that perfectly plays on the notion that any fairly normal person at any point has the potential to become a monster under the right circumstances. The eyes are a dead giveaway when first spotting that transition, so I really wanted to focus on depicting the actual transformation inside the eye itself, which was weird, different, and a whole lot of fun. It’s always a challenge to put a unique look on a classic, so I hope you all enjoy it.

Here is what Tim had to say about “Reefer Madness”

Reefer Madness” needs no introduction. The American propaganda film that follows the exploits of teens in the 30’s being peer pressured into trying “The Devils Weed” aka Marijuana and what follows is lunacy, depravity and insanity all caused by marijuana addiction. Ridiculous and often hilarious, this film needed some more poster love. I decided to veer away from the propaganda type feel as well as the cartoon like approach. The film itself was INTENDED to be serious and to scare viewers into believing these awful events were caused by pot. So I decided to go that route, giving it a film noir feel with an art nouveau flare. A young woman, pressured into trying some marijuana and being tempted by the devil with a yellow rose. The inclusion of the flowers within the piece adds a bit of depth and symbolism as well. The yellow rose symbolizes friendship and joy, while the white flower in her hair, represents her innocence and purity. By “taking” the devil’s flower she is accepting him into her making her his to control. I truly hope you all enjoy this print and thank you to Jared and Mike at Grey Matter for embracing the idea and running with it.

Grey Matter had this to say…”Grey Matter Art is proud to announce our next official poster release for the novel “American Psycho,” by artist Timothy Pittides, and authorized by author Bret Easton Ellis.

Timothy Pittides adds…”American Psycho, the moment I first saw the film in 2002, I fell in love. One of the only films that made me go out and purchase the novel it was based on. After my first initial reading, I couldnt shake the feeling of uneasiness. I felt dirty, and I LOVED IT. Bret Easton Ellis weaved a story so shocking and so important it could not be ignored. I have read this great book so many times, I felt a part of the narrative. When the time came where I felt I could do some justice to it, I had to strike and reach out to Mr. Ellis and see if I was worthy enough to create a visual for his book. When I received the go ahead, I was not ready for where this would take me. Numerous concepts, 60 hours of work completed on one concept, only to stare at it in it’s final inked form, and HATE it. It was good, but not good enough, it didn’t convey what I wanted. I placed it aside, taking some concepts from it and finally creating these piece which I feel conveys the tone and attitude of the words Mr Ellis so viciously typed. Patrick Bateman’s descent into insanity and depravity is only made worse by the materialistic world in which he is so desperately trying to be apart of. That hate and venom is represented here in his business suit, his status symbol, slowly turning him into a wild animal. I am so pleased Grey Matter Art is willing to release this authorized print for me and I can not thank them enough. But the true thanks goes to Emory Johnson at Random House, Amanda Urban at ICM partners and of course Bret Easton Ellis himself.

“American Psycho” goes on sale Thursday, May 7th at 1:00 PM EST on Grey Matter’s Webstore!
